At Big Stone Therapies, we believe that outstanding care is about more than clinical skills — it’s about heart, connection, and the ability to help people break through barriers. That’s why we’re thrilled to celebrate Lexis Arnold, Speech-Language Pathologist, as the February 2025 recipient of Avera Marshall’s Spirit of Excellence Award.
Her award comes at the perfect time — May is National Speech, Language, and Hearing Month, a time to recognize the vital work of SLPs and other communication professionals who help people of all ages communicate, connect, and thrive.
Lexis has been serving the Marshall community for a year and a half, bringing creativity and compassion to every therapy session. She primarily works with the pediatric population, helping children overcome expressive language and literacy challenges, while also supporting adult patients who are navigating communication and swallowing difficulties after a stroke. Her diverse caseload reflects her wide-ranging expertise and the broad scope of modern speech-language pathology.

“Our scope includes AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), articulation, phonology, language, literacy, fluency, swallowing, infant feeding, memory care, cognition, and voice,” Lexis explains.
One thing that sets Lexis apart is her approach to building trust, especially with children. She focuses on meeting each patient where they are, using activities that highlight their interests and strengths. By making therapy fun and engaging, she helps kids discover the joy of communication — and that joy often unlocks major progress.
One of Lexis’s most rewarding recent experiences was working with a young patient who received an AAC device. With the right support, the patient’s communication abilities flourished, proving how powerful it can be when all forms of communication are honored and supported.
What makes Lexis’s story even more special is her deep-rooted connection to the Marshall community. Born and raised here, she takes great pride in giving back to the town that shaped her. She knows that access to specialized, high-quality therapy services close to home is a true gift for local families.
“It’s such an honor to provide individualized care right here in Marshall, without patients needing to travel hours outside their home community,” she shares.
At the core of her work is the belief that therapeutic relationships matter. By creating a safe space built on trust, Lexis empowers her patients to step outside their comfort zones and tackle challenges head-on — whether they’re mastering new communication tools or rebuilding skills after an injury or illness.
Receiving the Spirit of Excellence Award is a meaningful acknowledgment for Lexis, both personally and professionally. She says it reflects the focus she puts into building strong connections with patients and families — and how play-based, engaging therapy can lead to huge gains toward communication goals.
We are so proud to have Lexis on the Big Stone Therapies team. She is a shining example of what it means to Discover the BIG Difference in patient care.
