Pain Neuroscience Education

In recent years, research has explored the notion of teaching people more about pain. This type of education is referred to as pain neuroscience education (PNE). PNE is an educational strategy used by physical therapists that focuses on teaching people in pain more about the biological and physiological processes involved in their pain experience. Current best-evidence provides strong support for PNE to positively influence pain ratings, dysfunctions, fear-avoidance, and pain catastrophization, limitations in movement, pain knowledge, and healthcare utilization.

Who can Pain Neuroscience help?

  • Chronic, Acute and Post Surgical Pain

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

  • Chronic headaches

  • Lyme Disease Pain

Dry Needling

Dry needling is an evidence-based treatment that uses a thin, monofilament needle that punctures the skin to treat acute and chronic inflammation, muscle pain and “knots”.  This method does not use medication and it creates both local and systemic effects by inducing tissue remodeling and tissue homeostasis by altering the chemical environment.  The body will release natural biochemicals and go through a process of self-healing and self-repair.

Dry Needling is effective in the treatment of :

  • Neck/Back Pain

  • Headaches/TMJ

  • Chronic Pain

  • Hip and Gluteal Pain

  • Achilles Tendonitis

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Knee Pain - Knee Osteoarthritis

  • Muscular Strains/Ligament Sprains

  • Shoulder Pain

  • Sciatica

  • Tennis/Golfers Elbow

Falls & Balance Program

More than 30% of people aged 65 and older who live in the community fall each year. 20-30% of them will suffer moderate to severe injuries that will make it difficult to live independently, making them more likely to move into long-term care.  Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology can help reduce your risk of falling and allow you to safely remain living at home as long as possible.

Are you at risk?

  • Have you fallen in the past year?

  • Do you feel unsteady when standing or walking?

  • Do you worry about falling?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, a therapy examination will benefit you.
